An Operating System is the fundamental software which controls a PC. It controls how the hardware functions, the communication with peripherals including a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between your applications, and the prioritization of apps when several run simultaneously. Every program that's installed on a computer works by sending requests to the OS for various services using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS is possible via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the web hosting field, the Operating System is what controls a hosting server along with all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application such as a VOIP or a game server. In case there are virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
In case you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page since we want to give you a larger choice with regard to the system environment on your server as different applications could have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and secure web hosting service. Based on your decision, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you've selected initially doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also update the OS on a regular basis to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
