SPF, which means Sender Policy Framework, is an email safety system, that is employed to confirm if an e-mail message was sent by an authorized server. Employing SPF protection for a given domain name will stop the counterfeiting of email addresses made with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this function for a domain name generates a specific record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP addresses of the servers which are permitted to send email messages from mail boxes using the domain. The moment this record propagates globally, it exists on all DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Any time a new e-mail message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through tests whether it originates from an authorized server. When it does, it's sent to the destination address, but when it does not come from a server listed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is rejected. In this way nobody can mask an e-mail address then make it look as if you're distributing spam messages. This approach is also referred to as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Cloud Website Hosting

SPF protection can be enabled for every domain name hosted in a cloud website hosting account on our cloud platform with just a few mouse-clicks. The function is available in the Emails section of our state-of-the-art Hepsia Control Panel and what is needed to activate it is to pick one of your domain names from a drop-down list and type in the hostnames plus the IPv4 or IPv6 addresses of the mail servers which will be authorized to send email messages from your emails. As an additional option you can also restrict the e-mails to be sent from your domain only when it includes our MX records, i.e. if our servers manage the e-mail addresses for it, not a third-party supplier. This option will give you the highest degree of protection, but it is not applicable in case only your web site is on our servers while the emails for the domain name are taken care of somewhere else. Regardless, the SPF protection service will keep your email addresses protected from being used for spam or scam purposes.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The SPF protection feature comes with all of the Linux semi-dedicated packages, so in case you host your domain names in an account on our cloud web hosting platform, you're able to use the service easily for any of your domain names. The Hepsia Control Panel, which is provided with the semi-dedicated accounts, has a quite intuitive interface, so you won't need to be tech-savvy in order to secure your emails. You'll simply have to type the hostname and the IP of each mail server that you would like to be allowed to send out e-mails from your addresses and shortly after that the updated record will be activated for the domain name that you've chosen. As an additional option, we'll also give you the ability to restrict the outgoing emails and secure your mailboxes further by allowing email messages to be sent only if the domain name involved features our MX records i.e. the e-mail messages for the domain have to be managed by us and not by a different company. By doing so you'll get even superior control and there will not be a chance for someone to forge your email addresses for malicious objectives.
