Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange info between a hosting server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is protected, a third party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of handling a hosting account. The commands which can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the choices are limited as you shall not have root access to the server, so you can simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. These are all actions which are performed inside the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a variety of apps for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting

SSH access is offered with all Linux cloud website hosting packages we offer. With some of them, it's offered as standard, while with others it's an optional upgrade which you can include with several clicks in your hosting CP. You can obtain SSH access from the section dedicated to it where you shall also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can pick the password which you'll use and, if needed, you will be able to modify it with a few clicks from the same location. All commands which could be used with our shared packages are listed inside a help article together with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you'll also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you shall be able to receive SSH access to it with a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with all accounts. If your plan does not support this function by default, you'll be able to include it without difficulty through the Upgrades menu. When you go to the SSH section, you will find the info which you need to connect to the server through a command line or a desktop application - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, when required. These login credentials are also required if you want to upload files using a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we provide. A comprehensive list of the commands which you can execute will give you a better idea of what tasks you may perform in your account and each is accompanied by a couple of examples of the syntax.
